Summer 2014 Youth Music Courses - Invite and Application Forms

Bedfordshire Music Trust logoDear All,

Please find attached the details of the BMT Summer Youth Music Courses. I am happy to say that this course we are running a record eight ensembles! This promises to be a very exciting course, with lots of new and unusual opportunities for all of our students. The courses, including Junior Strings and Youth Choir, will be running over the period 24th July - 1st August. As previously advertised, all instrumental courses will be held within the period 24th - 29th July, with the Youth Choir following directly afterwards, to enable everyone interested to participate.

The courses will run as follows:

  • Training Band: 24th July.
  • Wind Band: 25th - 28th July.
  • Concert Band: 25th - 28th July.
The Wind and Concert Bands will be performing an exciting joint concert at the end of their courses, full of contemporary and film repertoire and with the possibility of a joint piece to round off the course too! The staff have lots of interesting Summer-time activities lined up for break times - so get keen!
  • Junior Strings: 27th - 29th July.
  • Senior Strings: 26th - 29th July.
This Summer we are running Junior Strings alongside the older orchestras, which is providing the opportunity for a fantastic joint event between Junior and Senior Strings at the Corn Exchange! This unique event promises to be the highlight of the Summer courses, and I am very excited to announce that the two groups will be joining forces to perform a special commission by Michael Rose.
  • Second Orchestra: 26th - 29th July.
The highlight of the Second Orchestra course will the performance of a concerto with a local soloist (!), alongside a selection of repertoire I know many of you are already excited about.
  • Youth Orchestra: 26th - 29th July (£85).
Youth Orchestra have some particularly exciting repertoire lined up for this course. **Provided enough students attend to make it possible** the highlight of the course will be the opportunity to perform Rimsky-Korsakov's Sheherezade. Please encourage friends to apply so that the orchestra will have the opportunity to perform this brilliant work. Staff will also be running a music quiz for Youth Orchestra students, with a £50 prize!

Please note: Second and Youth Orchestra will no longer be held at Goldington Academy.
  • Youth Choir: 30th July - 1st August (£40).
We have decided to run the Youth Choir course directly after the instrumental courses to enable students to join the choir alongside their regular group and give it a try! Students who wish to attend both an orchestra/band course and the Youth Choir will receive a fantastic 50% discount on their Youth Choir fee! New Youth Choir students, and anyone who brings a new friend will also be eligible to attend for just £20! The Choir will be performing excerpts from Karl Jenkins' The Armed Man alongside a wide selection of sacred, secular, folk and spiritual repertoire from around the world. Students performing at the Royal Albert Hall Armed Man concert are encouraged to attend, as the course will be an important part of your rehearsal and preparation.

Please see the attached Invitation Letter for full details of the eight courses, including locations, rehearsal times, concert dress, payment details, T&Cs and how to apply for financial assistance or the car-share scheme.

The deadline for applications is FRIDAY 6th JUNE. I look forward to hearing from you soon!
