Leighton Buzzard Brass Bonanza

Brass BonanzaCedars Upper School, July 2000

Review and photos submitted by Kevin Nicholls

Cedars Upper School, Linslade was the host school for the Leighton Buzzard Brass Bonanza. 70 Pupils were in attendance and ages ranged from 8 to 80 (that's Uwe Radok!!!) The music was varied and included a selection of Walt Disney tunes (Davey Crocket, Supercalafra......... etc) to Wet Wet Wet (Love is all Around).

One of the highlights of the concert was the rendition of Calypso. The head teachers of both Linslade Lower and Southcote Lower were invited to join the percussion section much to the delight of their pupils and parents. We now know what the Thunderbird puppets were modelled on!!!

The concert finished with a "Toast for Tune a Day". The ever popular book is 60 years old and a "Jive Bunny" mix was presented with such favourites as "Lightly Row", "This Old Man" etc.

The concert was a great success and thanks must go to Peter Halliday, Uwe Radok, and Kevin Nicholls for making the event so successful.

Below are photos the youngest and oldest performers at the event -
Sophie Baczynski (aged seven) and Uwe Radok (aged eighty, alledgedly)
