The Millenium Appeal

In late 1999 a Millennium Appeal was launched by The Friends of Bedfordshire Youth Music.

Each year - from membership subscriptions, donations, collections, and the sale of merchandise and tape-recordings - we aim to raise in excess of £10,000 which we use for the following purposes:

  • To provide financial support, in the form of remission of fees, to children from less affluent families, so that they can take part in the county's Holiday Music Courses and Saturday Music Centres.
  • To provide specialist instruments and printed music for the county's Youth Orchestras and Bands, as well as for students in the county's schools.
  • To sponsor special musical events for the benefit of children in the county's schools.

Bedfordshire can be proud of having what many regard to be the finest Youth Music Service in the country, since its founding in 1971, but its very success, coupled with continual cuts in public funding, has led to more and more demands being made on The Friends' limited resources. We are therefore launching a Millennium Appeal, with the aim of raising £25,000, so that we can ensure that similar opportunities for musical fulfillment are available to the next generation of our young musicians.

There are various ways in which you or your company could help and at the same time receive recognition from The Friends and from the many hundreds of students and their families involved in Youth Music. I should be most grateful if you would consider this opportunity to help and be able to pledge some money.
